Dr. Chavira’s interest in body-mind-soul health has been a constant throughout his life. As an undergraduate, he received both a BA in Comparative Theology and a BS in Biology/Biochemistry. Graduating as the top student in both Colleges, he followed up on his interest by pursuing post graduate studies in Theology, Poetry, and Philosophy at the Australian National University. He then attended Stanford Medical School and taught Ethics and Human Biology while receiving his MD. While there, he was also intimately involved in ground breaking research on Mind-Body Medicine which demonstrated the power of an integrated approach to health and healing. He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine. He continues as a leader in medicine by working as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA Department of Emergency Medicine, Director at various facilities, and teaching on various topics ranging from Emergency Medicine to Wellness to the challenges of working in Inner Cities. He remains an active surfer and is a happy husband and father of three beautiful children.
